Andy Stott || CMJ || MoMA PS1

Chairlift at MoMA PS1 for CMJ.

Andy Stott at MoMA PS1 was definitely a CMJ highlight.

Hearing him drop “Numb” off of his brilliant new LP Luxury Problems was pretty unreal, and I feel like seeing him inside a geodesic dome was pretty fitting. It was a neat space, the sound was great, and the projections were pretty rad. Chairlift and Doldrums played before him, both were great.

Next week is CMJ, and I am stressing out over it more than anything school related which is pretty sad. It’s not without good reason though, dozens of my favorite current acts will be playing across the city at tons of venues, often multiple times in the week.

I will be shooting for Beats Per Minute for much of the week which makes the stress load even heavier, but there’s no doubt that it’ll be one of the most amazing weeks of the year. Here is my schedule thus far, which will certainly look drastically different by next Tuesday when the festival kicks off.

Tuesday 10/16:
OFF!, The Spits, Double Negative, Negative Approach - Irving Plaza

Wednesday 10/17:
Dent May, Mac DeMarco, Teen Suicide - Delinquincy (BPM)

Thursday 10/18:
Pissed Jeans, King Tuff, Metz, Poor Moon, Daugn Gibson - Knitting Factory (Sub Pop)
DIIV, Mac DeMarco, Thieves Like Us - Music Hall of Williamsburg (Captured Tracks)

Friday 10/19:
New Order - Roseland Ballroom
Death Grips, DIIV, Joey Bada$$, Holy Other, Merchandise, Le1f, Hundred Waters, Angel Haze, Daugn Gibson, Metz - Villain (Pitchfork)

Saturday 10/20:
Andy Stott, Chairlift, Doldrums - MoMA PS1 (Pitchfork)
Twerps, Maria Minerva, Slug Guts, Sky Ferreira, Mac DeMarco, Poolside - 92Y Tribeca

Sunday 10/21:
Wild Nothing, Merchandise, Mac DeMarco - Bowery Ballroom

Can’t tell if I am happy that I am under 21 or extremely pissed. This week would have been a lot more difficult at least because 70% of showcases seem to be 21+. Anyway, I’m gonna die.

I saw Chromatics and Oneohtrix Point Never tonight at Pitchfork’s Soundplay Game Jam at The New Museum. Third time seeing Chromatics and I could go for more. They are amazing. This city is amazing.

Dean Wareham - “Tugboat”
Live @ Forecastle

Why why whyyyyyyyyyyy did Pitchfork not book him. WHY

I have dreams about Dirty Projectors performing “Beautiful Mother” at Pitchfork.

It was that good.

“Count Me In” (Live at Pitchfork Music Festival)
Iceage

Such a great performance. Elias is so fun to watch on stage, as this video captures. One of the highlights from that weekend for sure.

Shouts out to Rebecca Smeyne of Pitchfork for noticing my rawk vibes during Ty Segall at Pitchfork Music Festival last weekend.
